High-Density Crosslinked Polyethylene (XLPE) Vs. OR-1000™
High-density crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) is the flagship innovation of Poly Processing.XLPE is a specially formulated resin that offers superior storage solutions for most chemicals. In this article, we’ll highlight the advantages of high-density crosslinked polyethylene and also pinpoint when OR-1000™ is the appropriate option.
The Properties of High-Density Crosslinked Polyethylene
A specially engineered resin that crosslinks the polymer chains, XLPE essentially delivers a tank constructed of one giant molecule. As a result, XLPE offers 20 times the environmental stress crack resistance of high-density polyethylene. (HDPE) While XLPE offers a stronger, more durable product, like all polyethylene certain oxidizers can cause it to become brittle. As a result, an innovative solution is required when storing highly oxidizing chemicals.
The OR-1000™ Solution
Inherently all polyethylene tanks can potentially become compromised when exposed to highly oxidizing chemicals. Over time, any type of normal polyethylene material will become brittle, and cracks and leaks may develop at the weaker points of the tank - around the fittings. Knowing these challenges we set out to develop products to extend the life of our customers' tanks, when storing highly oxidizing chemicals such as sulfuric acid and sodium hypochlorite, a special chemical storage system is required.
OR-1000™ adds a barrier between the oxidizing chemical and the XLPE. The wetted, interior surface of an OR-1000™ system is engineered to resist oxidation. The polyethylene preserves a special antioxidant package that protects the interior surface of the tank. The result is the best of both worlds when storing highly-oxidizing chemicals: the superior strength and durability of high-density crosslinked polyethylene of the exterior is seamlessly bonded with a interior surface in OR-1000™ that resists the damage of oxidation and protects the XLPE exterior surface.
This delivers a chemical storage solution that offers four times the anti-oxidation. The combination of a robust structurally superior plastic in XLPE when combined with the oxidation repelling properties of OR-1000™ is designed as the longest lasting storage system on the market for highly oxidizing chemicals.
