Make Sure Your SAFE-Tank® Installation Sets You Up for Long Term Success

The day you receive your SAFE-Tank chemical storage system is the most critical day in the life of your tank. Safe and proper installation isn’t difficult, but you have to pay attention. An improper installation can mean expensive or time-consuming problems down the road.

We’ve seen many instances when a customer uses a crane to offload the SAFE-Tank® from the truck, set the tank in place, then send the crane away. But the Bellows Transition Fitting had shifted during shipping and was misaligned at delivery. It’s either off-center or at the wrong depth.

It is critical that the alignment of the Bellows Transition Fitting is correct for proper installation. This must be done using a crane or boom lift — otherwise, you can’t properly realign the transition fitting. Too often, a customer has tried to realign it themselves using other equipment and by putting their shoulders into it. Unfortunately, within a couple months they discover a leak at the transition fitting.

Whether it’s a misaligned transition fitting or mishandling of the tank itself, you can’t afford to ignore a chemical tank installation procedure. The safety of your equipment, your people, and the environment depends on it — and a leaky tank means lost product. Improper installation also puts you at risk of invalidating the warranty on the accessories or the tank itself, which adds costs that could have been avoided on top of a problematic tank installation.

About the SAFE-Tank Double Wall Storage System

The SAFE-Tank is a double wall plastic storage tank that provides a “tank-within-a-tank” to safely store chemicals. The system helps prevent damage and injury from chemical exposure without the need for an additional containment unit.

Double wall tanks offer superior protection against hazardous chemical spills for personnel and the environment. The SAFE-Tank provides a minimum of 110% secondary containment by enclosing the primary storage tank within a sealed outer tank. Any chemical leak in the inner tank is fully contained in the outer shell.

The inner tank dome overlaps the outer tank sidewall to help prevent rainwater, debris, and other contaminants from entering the containment area. In case of a leak in the primary tank, you can continue to use the chemical system for a short period of time until the primary tank is drained and an inspection is performed to find the source of the leak.

SAFE-Tanks provide the following advantages for your business:

  • Durability. The outer tank is constructed with the same high-density crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) as the inner storage tank. XLPE is specifically engineered to accommodate the demands of chemical storage.
  • Lower costs and maintenance. The self-contained double wall that a SAFE-Tank offers is much less expensive upfront and easier to maintain than a concrete basin.
  • Safe storage of harmful chemicals. The double wall storage tank eliminates potential exposure and dangerous chemical reactions, such as sulfuric acid to water.
  • Outside storage option. The secondary containment vessel is sealed from the elements, so that no debris or rainwater can contaminate the chemical being stored.
  • Bottom discharge. A bellows transition fitting enables discharge from the bottom of the tank, while maintaining the integrity of the containment.
